I have always wondered if we will one day, if as getting powerful enough, we will need to speak multiple languages to reach a wider community. For instance, I already work with a couple of them. In order to show to the whole community how well we work with languages, I developed the LKC (Language Knowledge Chart). I will give you an example on how to do it and then I will show you mine.
Example: [Insert language here] (native/learned/learning/starter/interested)
Knowledge of grammar: good (good/average/poor/none)
Fluent speaking: (good/average/poor/none)
Vocabulary: (good/average/poor/none)
Understanding of speech: (good/average/poor/none)
Understanding of reading: (good/average/poor/none)
Understanding of alphabet: (good/average/poor/none) (Use this with languages with non-latin alphabet, such as Greek or Russian, or with language with complex latin letters, such as Norwegian, Romanian or Polish)
Definition of the categories:
Knowledge of grammar: Do you understand how sentence building, ortograpy and declinations of this language work?
Fluent speaking: Can you pronounce correctly and speak properly in a conversation or speech?
Vocabulary: How much words do you know in this language?
Understanding of speech: Would you understand if a native speaker spoke to you in this language?
Understanding of reading: Can you understand what you read in a text?
Understanding of alphabet: Can you tell the pronunciation of the words in the alphabet and transliterate the language?
Grades:
Good: you fully mastered this category.
Average: you can work with this category with some difficulty.
Poor: your knowledge is so poor that you cannot work with this category.
None: you know nothing about this category.
And this is my LKC:
